Wednesday 10th June 2020
I just want to let you know where we are! And thank you for your patience and understanding !
We are still waiting for the Welsh Government Guidance to be published. Following this there will be a Local Authority response and then a Caerphilly Head Teacher’s response. After this I will be in a position to give you a ‘plan’ for our school.
What has become clear is that every school will have to operate differently. This will depend on pupil numbers, staff availability, the number of rooms available for use and the number of pupils requiring the hub facilities that have been based at Bedwas High throughout lock down and will now be run in individual schools.
In order to help support your initial decision making I can tell you the following;
The health and well-being of pupils, staff and our families is the most important consideration.
We will need to find new ways of ‘making connections’ and creating a ‘new normal’.
Social distancing is not a realistic possibility for pupils of Foundation Phase age.
It will not be ‘back to school’ every day. It is likely that the children will have between 2 and 4 opportunities to ‘check in’ over the 4 week period. We may need to prioritise Year 2 pupils for sessions as they have the added concerns about transition to Bedwas Junior School. It may not be possible to offer Nursery sessions during this 4 week period. These sessions may not be ‘full days’. The sessions will definitely be staggered to allow for social distancing at drop off and pick up.
Not all classrooms will be available, so not all children will be able to access their own classroom.
Not all staff are available, so some children will not be with ‘their’ teacher.
Most learning will continue to be 'distance learning'... even in September.
